Going to Chessiecon 2016

Chessiecon 2016 at the Radisson North Baltimore I’ll be attending Chessiecon for the first time ever this weekend and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve heard about the con for years, but this is the first chance I’ve had to go. It’s being held at the Radisson North Baltimore in Timonium, MD. Seemed like a cool thing to do on my Thanksgiving semi-stay-cation.

My friend, Martin Wilsey, will be there as a panelist. Some of my other friends will be there as well. I suspect I’ll have a bit of a chance to transact some business. Plus, in general, I find cons to be really enervating.

I had a great time at Chessiecon. I ended up attending an excellent workshop on “The Business of Writing,” from Kim Iverson Headlee. So much fun, in fact, that Martin Wilsey and I took her out to lunch to talk shop (and we both bought her new book, The Business of Writing, which is subtitled “Practical Insights for Independent, Hybrid, and Traditionally Published Authors.”

Also met a surprising number of people there that I knew, many from WSFA (the Washington Science Fiction Association), but others as well.

In fact, since I have no big-box book stores near me anymore (here in the most affluent county in the entire country), I tend to buy books at conventions. Besides Kim Iverson Headlee’s writing book, I also bought:

And, somehow, I left the convention with these short stories, as well (thanks, Kim):
