My Author Chow entries are dedicated to the premise that authors, like armies, require sustenance or they don’t do what they’re supposed to be doing (hint: writing). This time, I’m featuring the non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner that my wife and I jointly prepared this year.
Now, for the record, there’s nothing wrong with turkey for Thanksgiving. But preparing a bird is a lot of work for feeding two people (well, it was going to be three, but our planned guest got sick and couldn’t come). And, frankly, my wife and I really don’t do justice to all of the left-overs. Sorry. That’s just the way it is.
So, here’s the non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner that my family did this year. Filet Mignon with seasonings and garlic butter, small potatoes with garlic butter, salad with baby tomatoes and Italian dressing, and grilled asparagus. Followed, of course, by Apple pie and Edie’s classic vanilla ice cream.
The Filet Mignon was seasoned and pan-seared on the stove by my wife, then finished by me on the outdoor grill.
